First introduced into Brazil by Japanese martial arts expert Mitsuyo Maeda in 1914 for further development by brothers Carlos Gracie (Helio), Luiz Franca and others to form what has come to be known as Brazilian Jiu Jiu.

Peter Irving has been fighting professionally since 2001 and boasts an extensive resume that encompasses MMA, Judo and submission wrestling fights. He holds a 2nd Degree Black Belt under Carlson Gracie in BJJ; during this time in Brazil he also trained under Master Crezio de Souza who founded Carlson Gracie’s team; competing open weight Vale Tudo fights while training alongside Master Crezio de Souza’s Brazilian National Wrestling team!

Pete has successfully led fighters from local to international levels to victory, and his instruction in Jiu Jitsu for MMA is highly sought after by coaches around the globe. His instructional volume on Jiu Jitsu for MMA (Adapting Grappling for the Cage) is highly-recognized while other texts he has authored include BJJ, MMA and Judo instruction volumes as well as being awarded with three third-degree Black Belt status under Alan Orr’s CSL Chinese Boxing San Da.
